Samantha Nell is a narrative and commercials writer/director based out of Johannesburg, South Africa. She’s worked on four continents and made everything from a Nando’s commercial to “Do Your Worst”, a narrative comedy for Netflix, that charted in the Top Ten films in South Africa.
She’s collaborated with brands like KFC, Showmax, and Nissan to create commercial work brimming with visual comedy, humane performances, and impressive VFX.
Her filmmaking career has taken her to the Director’s Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival, where her short film “The Beast” premiered in 2016. She also produced “Stiff” through the Focus Features Africa First Program.
In addition to her commercial work, she is currently developing a second feature as well as a television series, and has participated in several competitive development labs including: Realness Screenwriter's Residency, La Fabrique du Cinema du Monde, TIFF Talent Lab and Locarno Filmmaker's Academy.
